The MacNab Challenge

Brought to you by Delaney & Sons

For adventurous sportsmen and women seeking the ultimate test of skill, tradition, and endurance, the MacNab Challenge is a truly iconic pursuit. Set amidst the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands, this century-old sporting quest invites you to take part in one of the most revered achievements in the world of fieldsports.

Inspired by the novel, John MacNab, the challenge requires you to harvest a red stag, shoot a brace of grouse, and catch a salmon on the fly — all in the same day. It’s not just a test of marksmanship and angling; it’s a race against the clock, the weather, and the wild. Each MacNab day begins before dawn and demands strategic planning, physical endurance, and a deep respect for the landscape and its wildlife. The beauty of our program is that you get to try again the next day for five days straight.

Find quick answers to common questions about the MacNab Challenge

What is included and not included in the MacNab Challenge trip?

In short, we provide airport transfers to the venue, ground transfer throughout the week, food and accommodations, wine with dinner, shotgun and rifle hire and permits, ammunition, ghillies to help with fishing, flies, and stalkers for stag.

What’s not included is airfare, gratuities, waders for fishing, trophy stags, taxidermy and shipment of racks, and travel insurance.

What will the weather be like In Scotland On a MacNab Challenge Trip?

Mornings can be quite chilly, 45 degrees or so, and it is unlikely that it will get out of the upper 50s during the day.  Rain is always a possibility, and there is a good chance that we will get wet at some point in the week.  The Lodge has a drying room which is an especially Scottish feature.  If you get wet your kit will be dry in the morning.  Warning, if you put anything made of wool in the drying room it will be youth sized in a couple of hours.  Laundry facilities will be available as well.

Can I speak with someone that has been on a MacNab Challenge trip?

We recommend that you speak with our past shooters. They sell the shoots well! Shooters from past trips will be more than happy to share their experiences and speak with you further about our trips.
